Shut Up and Listen (SUAL) brings people together in dark rooms with high-quality sound systems to experience albums front to back. Lights off, phones away, no talking, and full focus on the music.

Asking a room of adults to sit in total silence and stare at a pair of speakers sounds unreasonable. It is also entirely necessary.
SUAL exists for three reasons

For Art
A single track can be an algorithmic fluke. A complete album is a deliberate artistic statement. You do not sprint through an art gallery glancing at frames for three seconds, you sit on the bench and look at the canvas. SUAL is carving out the time to sit on the bench.

Growing up, music wasn't 'content.' It was everything. It was the social glue. As life got serious, spending hours dissecting basslines became a luxury, and records turned into wallpaper. SUAL brings that obsession back. Experiencing an album with strangers builds real connection. Shared focus creates shared memory. You find your people.

For Mental Health
Modern listening is fractured by doomscrolling, notifications, and convenience. Putting on a record at home often ends with a phone in hand before track one finishes. Hard silence in a dark room forces your brain to stay where your body is.

5mThe lights dim further. The host sets the house rules and introduces the guest and their Aux Talk.

15m - 20mA club member shares their love of music with a short story about what music means to them and why they chose their 3 tracks.

Album Reveal & First Half of Album
The host reveals the secret album and introduces the curated artistic theme (provided by SUAL HQ). The first half of the album plays in complete silence.

Halftime Break
10mThe lights come up a little. People stretch, reset, and grab another drink. (Trust us, you'll need the break. Collective listening is intense)

The second half of the album plays out, then lights come up for a chat. This is a good time to invite new people to your local SUAL WhatsApp group.

Start where it suits you. Launch directly as a Premier Chapter if you have the venue and audience, or begin as a Grassroots Satellite and level up to a ticketed Chapter whenever you are ready to scale.

- For large rooms, independent cinemas, auditoriums, and arts centres (50–150+ seats).
- Ticketed shows ($20–$35 / £15–£25 / €18–€30 in your local currency) with shared revenue.
- Direct founder support, marketing help, and official local area approval.

We keep the admin simple so every host can focus on the music.
SUAL Satellites (Grassroots Tier)
Satellites manage their own local ticketing or free RSVPs using our Humanitix event template and link their own bank account. Hosts keep 100% of door money (nominal $5–$10 / local equivalent) to fund vinyl purchases and gear upkeep. Once published, you send us your ticket link and we add it to the global directory.
SUAL Chapters (Premier Tier)
Ticketed shows ($20–$35 / local equivalent) are managed centrally by SUAL HQ via Humanitix. Net box-office revenue is split 70% to the local Host/Venue and 30% to SUAL HQ under an initial 6-month residency agreement. Settlements are paid out directly within 3–5 business days post-event with an itemised attendance report.

The Host Commitment
You do not need an audiophile temple to begin, but the standards are non-negotiable. If you have a clean stereo setup, a room you can keep dark and quiet, and the willingness to enforce total silence, we will work with you to vet your space and get your chapter off the ground.

The Authority You are willing to enforce the rules. If someone talks or is on their phone, you have to be the bad cop and stop them.

The System For rooms running vinyl, a dedicated turntable, a quality phono stage, and a properly placed stereo. No multi-room background or Bluetooth speakers can be used.

The Room You are responsible for lighting and outside noise. The room must be dark. Not pitch black, but as low as possible. No walk-through traffic. No kitchen clatter. No competing venue audio.

Who chooses the album?+
Central SUAL picks the global curation calendar and overarching artistic themes. Rooms run the scheduled feature album within that programming window. Hosts curate their own warm-up and post-session music.
What gear do I need?+
SUAL is vinyl-first, but high-res digital friendly. For pub back rooms, you just need a reliable turntable with a fresh needle, a preamp box, and a sound system. For large venues, cinemas and theatres, we can plug in a turntable or run uncompressed master digital audio directly into the house soundboard.
What if I can't get the record in time, or it's too expensive?+
High-res digital playback (lossless FLAC/WAV) is completely fine if physical vinyl can't be sourced in time. If you prefer to stay on vinyl, you can also contact HQ in writing to approve an alternative album that fits the curated artistic theme. Only approved albums can be played.
What night works best?+
Midweek evenings, especially Tuesday or Wednesday, when venues are quieter.
How often do sessions run?+
Frequency is flexible. Grassroots Satellites typically run as a monthly residency, while premier cinema Chapters can program weekly or fortnightly sessions.
How does the guest Aux Talk work?+
Presenters can bring records or connect a phone or laptop with a standard 3.5 mm audio cable. They are free to present on any topic they like. It does not need to link to the main album.
Why is the album kept secret?+
Secrecy removes genre bias and ego. Attendees show up for the listening ritual rather than deciding beforehand if they like the artist. The room hears the opening track with completely fresh ears.
Can I reveal the album early or post spoilers?+
No. We send you the album title in advance to prepare your setup and notes, but the title stays secret until you introduce it at the event. Keeping it under wraps ensures your room hears the record with fresh ears, and stops spoilers leaking online for clubs running later in the week.
